NIHF-STEM provides an authentic Chinese cultural curriculum for grades seven and eight with a learning coach, Qing Liang, from China. This unique experience supports a multitude of global learning opportunities with summer trips to China as well as language and dance competitions. A school-wide STEM favorite is the celebration of Chinese New Year which was presented February 7th. The Great Hall was a sea of lucky red shirts and good fortune for the celebration of the Chinese new year of the rat.Attendance also includes family and community. Learner created Chinese New Year decorations that culturally transformed the school venue to prepare for the festivities. Our learners learned traditional dance, songs, martial arts, and experienced guest presentations from Chinese performers. Learners look forward to the dragons and the dragon dances and especially enjoy the alluring costumes to make their dances authentic. Following the school wide celebration, 7th and 8th grade learners were treated to authentic Chinese food. As we welcome the year of the rat, we share this Chinese wish 万事如意 (may everything you wish come true).
