NIHF Inductee Marshall Jones Visits
Posted on 12/18/2018
We were honored to welcome Dr. Marshall Jones to our school on December 12th. Dr. Jones was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2017 for his invention of the Industrial Laser. His invention truly revolutionized the welding industrial as it allowed for the first the ability to weld, unlike materials. While he was with us he visited a 5th-grade engineering class where he spoke to learners about their inventions and Rube Goldberg projects. He even signed a few autographs! Dr. Jones then interacted with learners in a Q and A session where they learned how many iterations of his invention he went through ( a lot!) before he perfected and how a few special people in his life affected the path he took and led him to the success he has experienced. He ended his time with us with an ambassador-led tour to our Learning Commons where he engaged in Virtual Reality and enjoyed a bit of salad grown in our Tower Garden. His next stop was the Digital Fabrication Lab where he learned how our learners use this space to be creative and learn the latest technologies. He ended his tour in our Gateway to Technology class where 8th-grade learners shared the projects they have been working on so far this school year. It was a real pleasure to meet Dr. Jones and interact with him. This is another great example of how our community partners enhance our curriculum. Thank you, National Inventors Hall of Fame!
