During our morning meeting on Friday, our school shared in the celebration of a first place Rock Off recognition for Evan Cox. The school gathered for the excitement of a clip from his performance. We have been watching Evan perform live at school over the last three years and are so proud of his talent. We are looking forward to hearing more from this accomplished learner. Details about the event were featured in the Akron Beacon Journal.

Akron’s own Detention, a quartet of secondary and middle school students, was crowned “Valedictorians” of the 24th annual Tri-C High School Rock Off on Saturday night.

The band — singer Elliott Carter and bassist Fritz Dannemiller of Firestone High School, drummer Luke Konopka of Highland Middle School and guitarist Evan Cox of STEM Middle School  won the “Final Exam,” beating out the 11 other remaining young bands from an initial pool of more than 130 aspiring contestants from around Ohio, Pennsylvania and Illinois. Read more here >>.
