In a virtual celebration on February 17th, an official annoucement was shared with the school staff to honor Chelsea Nicolino as a district finalist for the APS Teacher of the Year award. Our school proudly presents Coach Nicolino with her virtual introduction:
Hello, my name is Coach Nicolino and I am honored that this is my sixth year teaching at NIHF STEM. When I am not teaching I am a mother to two children two and under, a graduate student, and a member of the Teach Better Team.
My role as a learning facilitator revolves around the philosophy of encouraging students to be life-long learners and providing them opportunities to practice skills that allow them to embrace science outside of the classroom. My classroom encourages students to have voice and choice on their learning paths, while learning content through hands-on experiences and lessons that encourage movement. I love nothing more than when my learners enthusiastically share their knowledge with their classmates, because they have gained confidence in their scientific skills and are thinking like scientists!
