Posted on 01/27/2021

The University of Akron enriched the learning experience at NIHF-STEM with live sessions from three university locations. The Department of Polymer Science presented Under Pressure with live rocketry demonstrations by Professor John Fellenstien who is affectionately known by our learners at Professor Polymer. Mr. Fellenstein is a member of the Akron Global Polymer Academy and a content specialist for the university. The live Candy Machines session was a sweet engineering exploration of simple machines as learners discovered the inner working of a Pez candy dispenser. Heidi Cressman from the Engineering Department is the Director of Diversity and Inclusion, Women in Engineering. Biomimicry, always a hot science STEM study at our school, was presented by Dr. Lara Roketenetz, Biology Manager of the Bath Nature Preserve Field Station in a live interactive Biomimicry Jeopardy game. Our school’s partnership with the University of Akron provides exceptional opportunities for our learners to connect to higher education and explore STEM interests.
