Chinese Lunar New Year 2022

NIHF-STEM Community Chinese New Year Celebration
Posted on 02/18/2022

NIHF-STEM learners’ World Language experience is immersed in the language and culture of China, Each year our school bursts with celebration as the Chinese Lunar New Year arrives. Chinese New Year is celebrated for 15 days and it's the most important festival in Chinese culture. Just as in Chinese culture, where the family gathering brings everyone together, our STEM family comes together in celebration. This year we shared our celebration with the Akron community in a beautiful event at Lock 3.

Our school-wide festivities included fifteen days of exciting events. We started the tradition by singing the “happy new year" song on February 2nd, the first day of the lunar new year. A martial art master was invited (arranged by the University of Akron) to teach all of the Chinese classes Taiji, one type of martial arts. The 8th graders also presented Chinese New Year traditions in the morning meeting and decorated classroom doors. The last day of celebration, one of our favorites, is the panda/tiger dance, zodiac dance, prize giveaway. As we enter the year of the tiger, we enter a year of changes, adventure, enthusiasm, generosity, and social progress. Happy year of the tiger!
